Rescue Racing

This team event requires two riders and a horse. Sometimes, courageous horsewomen register also in this event. The team with the best time wins. A pole is placed in each corner of the arena. The first rider rides around the two first poles, then he has to rescue his teammate (by picking him up) within the designated zone – between the second and third poles. They then ride around the fourth pole as fast as possible to complete the event and stop the time. The rescued team member’s feet must leave the ground before leaving the designated zone. Also, he must have a leg on each side of the horse when going around the last pole. Of course, this event is demanding for riders, but it is also demanding for judges who need to be constantly alert. The rescued team member attempts to mount the horse by grabbing the pommel, the saddle horn or even the rider when the horse runs by. The rider must try to help his teammate climb on the horse by using his hand for instance. This event requires flexibility and speed.
